The Parks
Department consists of two full-time employees year round. Temporary help
increases the work force during the warmer months of the year. One park maintenance personnel performs building and ground maintenance of the parks and various city properties. Pictured is a park employee seeding newly donated park acreage north of Smiley Park. Maintenance personnel use zero turn radius mowers with a 60-inch deck to mow park grounds. This employee plays an integral role in the renovation of the baseball infields with the addition of crushed clay surfacing. In addition to "hands on work," he also supervises seasonal staff. During the peak
months of the year, the Parks Department hires five maintenance employees to perform
essential duties such as mowing, landscaping, field preparation, restroom maintenance, and
special project programs. Since the warmer months bring an increase in recreational programs and activities, a seasonal recreation supervisor is hired. This person implements activities, and oversee the baseball and softball programs. Six concession attendants are hired to perform duties in the park concession operations. Additional staff of umpires for the softball and baseball programs are also utilized for the adult leagues. A temporary
clerical employee assists the Park Director with office duties such as computer data
entry, filing, accounting, office traffic, registration, and reservations.
