Water Treatment FacilityThe Water Treatment Department is responsible for the production of safe drinking water for Van Wert city residents.

City water was originally produced from a well that was located next to Jubilee Park.  At the time, treatment included adding lime soda to soften the water.

A reservoir of fifty-eight surface acres  was built in 1949.  It was designed to hold 380 MG (million gallons) of water.  The treatment plant was built next to the reservoir and went into water production in 1951.

A second reservoir of sixty-one surface acres   was built in 1964 to hold 400 MG of water.

Two domes were added to the north side of the treatment plant in 1979, along with other improvements that more than doubled the settling and clarification capabilities of the plant.  The current plant is designed to treat 4.5 MG daily.  In 1993-1995 CO2 induction, and filtration improvements were made.

The City also owns land immediately south and southwest of the south reservoir, which is reserved for future development.
