The Water Treatment Department employees maintain department operations 365 days a year.  Pictured is an employee checking fluoride levels within a sample of treated water.

The department head maintains a Class IV license and a full lab certification.  His responsibilities include supervising, budgeting, employee instruction, and analyzes problems, research, and resolutions, which influence treatment techniques.

The Class III operator, who normally works on a later shift. This employee has the goal of replenishing the city’s water supplies that have been drained throughout the day.  This operator is also operationally certified to run the lab of the Water Department.

The Class II operators:

The operator with full lab certification is in charge of the water treatment lab. Duties include multiple daily checks of the water quality,  maintaining monitoring equipment, inventorying chemicals, and monitoring the plant.   At times this employee collects water samples from various points around the city.  These samples are either tested by the city lab or by outside independent labs.

Class II operators also monitor the plant, performs testing within their operation certification, along with performing preventive maintenance.  Employees also participate in grounds maintenance such as mowing the banks of reservoirs, and digging out trees with a backhoe from the banks of the reservoir.

The department’s Class I operator is operationally certified to perform lab tests.  This employee maintains chemical supplies within equipment, preventative maintenance, and ground maintenance.
