Drop-off Recycling Programs  The drop-off programs provide recycling services to rural residents and small businesses.  The Recycling Center drive-thru provides additional service options for Van Wert area residents and businesses.

Township House Schedules

Township house collection hours are from 10:00 to 4:00 pm or until trailer is full.  Scheduled days of the month are as follows:

RECYCLING CENTER DRIVE THROUGH

The recycling drive-thru, composting and material recovery facility is located at the District Recycling Center at the northwest corner of the U.S. 127  and U.S. 30.    The drive through is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm and on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon.

CURBSIDE RECYCLING SERVICE   

The curbside recycling service provides weekly collection service to the City of Van Wert, Convoy, Elgin, Ohio City, Middle Point, Venedocia, Willshire, and Wren.  The daily average collection exceeds 7,600 pounds.   Holiday hours are posted local paper or call the District for a voicemail at least 48 hours prior to the holiday.

**HELPFUL HINTS**

  • To guarantee collection, set curbside recycling bins out by 7:30 am.

  • Separate wood fiber items (paper, cardboard) from the commingle items (aluminum, glass,  plastic, steel).

  • Detach lids from glass bottles and jars.

  • Cut down large pieces of cardboard to a size that will fit into the bin.  Flatten and compact cans and jugs as much as possible.

  • Other containers, boxes, or brown paper bags, 22 gallon or less in size that can be used in addition to the District  recycling bin.  Do not use strings, ropes, wires, plastic bags or straps.

  • If any materials are left behind, your collection driver will place a yellow sticker to explain. 

  • Avoid set-out during extreme weather.

Recycled Material That Will Be Accepted

WOOD FIBER:  Books, cardboard, office paper, phone books, catalogs, junk mail, magazines and newspaper. (Includes any paper/cardboard material without oil contamination, plastic/metal attachments, plastic/foil coating or lining.)

COMMINGLE:  Aluminum and steel cans, empty aerosol cans, number 1 and 2 plastics, egg carton style Styrofoam, food and beverage container glass, and aluminum foil.

OTHER:  The recycling center accepts motor oil, appliances and used tires ($2.00-up). A free book exchange is available at the center.

Materials That Is Unacceptable

  • We cannot accept items containing food, beverages or other contaminant.  Keep in mind that recycling is not a trash service.

  • We cannot accept Pyrex or cookware glass, window panes, light bulbs, pottery or ornamental glass.

  • Detach lids from glass bottles and jars.

Yard Waste

The District composting facility provides services and products for all District residents.  processing more than 3,400 tons annually

HOURS: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.  First and third Saturdays 8 a.m. - Noon

MATERIAL ACCEPTED:  Anything that grows in your yard and garden.

PRODUCTS AVAILABLE (FREE):  Compost, firewood, and wood mulch.  Loading option available for $5 per scoop.

THE RULES:  Unload materials in correct location. (Ask first).  Check-in with the District staff before cutting wood with power equipment.  The longer the branches, the easier to process.  Remove excess soil from root balls.  Do not leave rope, wire, straps, strings, plastic bags or other bundling materials or containers on site - take them with you.  We need your help to keep the site and end products clean.  If you see someone break the rules, please let us know immediately.
