Traffic signal maintainceDepartment Head: Bill Lawson

The Engineering Supervisor is directly involved in planning, design, and specifications of city projects that require coordination with various city departments.  These projects involve water lines, sewer lines, storm water lines, and street renovations.  Zoning issues and supervisory responsibilities are also a part of the position along with maintenance of traffic signals and code enforcement.  Code enforcement include such as issues as abandon vehicles, weed or grass violations, and trash within yards.

The Building Inspector is in charge of inspections to residences in regard to general construction, electrical and plumbing.  He coordinates inspections with contractors or whoever is performing the work to ensure that work performed according to current standards.  These standards were adopted by the National Electrical Code, Ohio Building Officials Association and City of Van Wert Standards & Drawings.  The Building Inspector also is involved in the maintenance of traffic control devices along with code enforcement.

The Engineer's Aide assists the City Engineer in all aspects of engineering duties. These include survey work and drawing plans using CAD program. He also maintains all city maps and updates them accordingly.   This aid may commonly be seen inspecting city construction projects being performed by third party contractors.
